Lady Majors pick up first win of the season
(Ashley Wilbourn)
The Millsaps College Lady Majors basketball team picked
up their first win of the season at the Huntingdon Tournament on Nov. 19
as Millsaps beat home team Huntingdon College 67-51.
After losing to Rust College in the first round of the tournament,
the Lady Majors were determined to even their record at 1-1. Beginning their
work early, Millsaps had built a lead of 15-4 at the 13:43 mark of the first
half.
The Lady Majors held on to this strong advantage throughout
the half by continuing to make shots while executing a well implemented defensive
strategy. In the closing minutes of the half, Millsaps kept Huntingdon from
scoring. After making a free throw shot at the 3:46 mark, Huntingdon did
not score again until there were only 46 seconds left in the half. Millsaps
went in to the locker room with a halftime advantage of 39-18.
The second half saw much of the same play, as Millsaps challenged
Huntingdon defensively. Midway through the second half, the Lady Majors had
managed to maintain their near twenty point advantage, with a score of 49-32
at the 9:52 mark.
Huntingdon was never able to mount a comeback, and Millsaps
picked up their first victory of the young season.
Leading the way for the Lady Majors was Jessica Bowie with
18 points and 11 rebounds, Miranda Rosar with 17 points and Lindsey Alderman
with 14 points.
Millsaps will have its home opener on Nov. 22 at 5 p.m.
when they face Rust College for the second time this season.
