Senior Day Sunday sees three move on

Last weekend's split with Southwestern and Trinity leaves the Lady Majors (9-11, 4-6) in sixth place in the SCAC standings needing only to be in the top eight to make the conference tourney later this month.

The Majors host a Rose-Hulman team Friday that is one game behind the Majors and currently occupies the seventh place slot for the SCAC tournament.

The Majors handed the Lady Engineers a 65-56 loss in Terre Haute on January 7th. Jillian Compton scored a season-high 21 points on 50 percent shooting and Miranda Rosar added 16 points and nine boards.

The Lady Engineers (10-11, 3-7) enter this game on a four-game losing skid.

They are led by 5’10 forward, Rebeka Forsyth (16.7 ppg, 10.7 rpg), the only player in the SCAC that averages a double-double. Forsyth scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds against the Lady Majors this year and recently had a career game, scoring 27 points and pulling down 16 rebounds in a 79-60 home loss to DePauw last weekend.

Guards Suzy Carlson and Jill Floyd are averaging 13.9 and 13.1 points per contest respectively. Carlson is shooting an even 50 percent from three-point range, for the Engineers who average 64.2 points per game and give up 63.

The road to the tournament gets much rockier on Sunday with nationally ranked (#10 USA Today, #14 D3hoops.com) DePauw (18-3, 9-1).

The Lady Tigers are currently first in the standings, tied with Trinity, who defeated DePauw 79-65 in San Antonio. The Lady Tigers crushed Millsaps on December 9th in Greencastle, by a 72-31 count.

Millsaps shot a miserable 11-of-52 (21.2 percent) from the floor and were outrebounded 53-26. Martha McDaniel was the lone Major in double-figures, with 10 points.

The Lady Tigers are led by Amy Argetsinger (15.1 ppg, 5.0 rpg). The only other DePauw player averaging double figures is Sarah Sondor, with 14.1 points a game.

While there are no spectacular individual statistics, the Lady Tigers have whipped opponents by an average of 18 points, having the most productive offense in the SCAC, averaging 73.7 points a game, and have also been the second stingiest defense, holding opponents to 55.7 points. DePauw shoots an impressive 46.1 percent from the field, while opponents shoot a miserable 38.2 percent and turn the ball over 20 times a game.

For the Lady Majors, Sunday will mark the end of three senior's career on the hardwood.

For four years, guard Jillian Compton has rained 168 3-point shots down on opponents. Compton scored her 1,000th point in the first game of the season against Judson College and has tallied 1,164 points (7th all-time at Millsaps) in her record breaking career. Compton's name is on many other list for school records.

Also guards Sheena Gardner and Sara Greer will play their last home games for the Lady Majors. Greer is currently fourth on the Majors all-time list with 267 assists.

The men tipoff at noon, followed by the women at 2:00. DePauw will also broadcast both games from their website. Rose-Hulman will broadcast the men's game only.
