Mary Bolton
Head Coach
Second Season
After
joining the Majors' staff in August of last year and weathering
a tough first season, McLain native Mary Bolton
returns
for a second season at the helm of the women's basketball
program in 2007-08, hoping to compete for a conference championship.
She picked up her first career win at home on Nov. 18, 2006,
a 78-55 victory over Rust.
Bolton lost three senior starters from a year ago but spent a great deal
of time on the recruiting trail to bring five fresh, new faces to this
year's squad in addition to six returners.
In just her first season, Bolton's tutelage helped
sophomore LaReina Adams gain All-SCAC Honorable Mention recognition
after averaging 13.0 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.
Bolton is no stranger to the college courts, having served as an assistant
coach at the University of Southern Mississippi and Jones County Junior College.
She also acted as head coach at Perry Central High School.
The former mayor
of McLain from 2001-04, Bolton is a graduate of Nicholls State University
in Thibodaux, La., where she received her bachelor's in physical education
and participated as a women’s basketball student-athlete. She later
earned her master's degree from the University of Southern
Mississippi.
Coach Bolton’s two sisters, Ruthie and Mae Ola Bolton, are former WNBA
players. Ruthie Bolton is widely known for playing on two United States Olympic
Women’s Basketball teams.

LaQunda Nichols
Assistant Coach
Second Season
A graduate of Tuskegee University in May 2005 with a year under her belt
as the assistant coach of Millsaps last season, LaQunda Nichols returns
to her post in 2007-08 to help enhance the Lady Majors basketball team
with her knowledge of the game.
Nichols has 13 years of basketball experience, seven years in track and
field and one in coaching, serving as the assistant coach last season
under Bolton.
She was a member of the Raymond HS Lady Rangers basketball
and track team from 1998-2001, winning the 3A state championship in '98
after placing first in the shot put. For the next three years, Nichols
went undefeated and held her state title in that event.
Her final two seasons on the basketball court, Nichols and the Lady Rangers
won the Class 3A and then 4A state championship, earning All-Tournament
team honors both years. Upon graduation, Nichols received the Henry Riser Hall of Fame award
for athletics, academics and citizenship.
The coach continued her athletic career at Tuskegee University, where
she was apart of the Tigerettes basketball and track team. During the
2001-02 and 2004-05 seasons, Nichols guided the basketball squad to the
SIAC regular season championship while being named the SIAC shot put
champion for the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons.

the Majors’ staff in 2006, Reed spent one season coaching side-by-side
