Millsaps Lady
Majors (10-12, 5-7) senior Jillian Compton scored a season-high
24 points on Senior Day in a 64-57 upset win over the DePauw Tigers
(19-4, 10-2) who were ranked #13 nationally by www.D3hoops.com
entereing Sunday's game.
The Lady Majors
led by six points early behind forward Miranda Rosar's ten first
half points and went to the halftime break tied at 31 to the Tigers,
who were bumped from first place in the SCAC as a result of the
loss.
The Lady Majors
outscored the Tigers 33-26 in the second half shooting 45 percent
from the floor including 5-10 from three point range.
Seniors Compton
(7th on school's all-time scoring list, 2nd in 3-pointers made),
Sheena Gardner (11 points and six rebounds) and Sara Greer (7th
all-time in school's all-time assist list) helped the Lady Majors
avenge a 40-plus point drubbing at the hands of the Tigers in Indiana
earlier this year.
Rosar finished
with 17 points and six boards and Greer had four assists and six
rebounds in the win. The Lady Majors shot 21-33 from the free throw
line including several key shots late in the game that kept the
Tigers down.
For Gardner,
Greer and Compton their final game in the Hangar Dome will be one
they will never forget.
Gardner has
played in 83 games at guard in her four-year career as a Major and
this season she has been the first option off the bench for Head
Coach Robin Jeffries.
Today's game
was Greer's 94th for the Lady Majors at point guard in a career
that will show her name at fourth place on the school's all-time
records list for assists in a career with 268. Sara has a chance
to move into third place this season ow that the Lady Majors have
made the post season conference tournament.
Today's game
was also the 94th career game for guard Compton. Jillian has moved
up the record book in several categories this season and will finish
seventh on the all-time scoring list with 1,172 points in her career.
She is currently third on the all-time field goal attempts list
with a chance to finish second with two games left to be played.
Compton will finish second all-time with 147 three-pointers made
and first all-time in 3-pointers attempted.
