Lady Majors fall short in Rhodes contest

The Millsaps Lady Majors were unable to collect a second conference win on Sun., Jan. 8. The team took on the Lynx of Rhodes College with the conference neighbors from Memphis winning 78-63 at Millsaps.

Millsaps held a small, early lead in the contest, but this proved to be their only lead of the first half. Rhodes player Gretchen Bufe went in for the lay-up against the Lady Majors at the 13:15 point of the first half, giving the Lynx a 9-5 advantage. From that point on, Rhodes never looked back in the first half. At the half, the Lynx led by nine, 39-30.

In the second half, Millsaps mounted a strong comeback, tying the game on a jump shot by Crystal Dickerson with 10:59 left to play. The Lady Majors took a one-point advantage in the next minute, but Rhodes once again took control of the game off of a lay-up with only 7:20 left to play. The Lady Majors were never able to reclaim the advantage and the Lady Lynx won going away, 78-63.

Miranda Rosar contributed 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the losing effort. Dickerson finished the game with 17 points and six rebounds. The Lady Majors will play again on Jan. 10 at 5 p.m. against the University of Dallas. The game will take place in the Hangar Dome.
