Lady Majors Keep SCAC Tournament Hopes Alive |
JACKSON, Miss. - The Millsaps College women’s basketball team faced off against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foes Southwestern University on Fri. Feb. 10. The 9-12 Lady Pirates and the 7-13 Lady Majors were each anxious for a win.
Millsaps took the early lead in the contest, holding a 14-7 advantage over Southwestern by the midway point in the first period of play. As the half came to a close, Millsaps took a 26-21 lead over their visiting rivals into the locker room. In the first half, the Lady Majors held the Lady Pirates to 29 percent shooting from the field and 23 percent from the three-point arc.
In the second period of play, Southwestern attempted to cut into the Millsaps lead, but the Lady Majors proved to be the stronger team. They held their lead throughout the remainder of the game, never allowing Southwestern to take the lead.
Millsaps outscored their opponent 31-29 in the second half and won the game 57-50, bringing the Lady Majors one step closer to the conference tournament.
For the game, Lindsay Alderman led the Lady Majors with 15 points, followed by Crystal Dickerson and Miranda Rosar, each with 13 points. Dickerson also had 11 rebounds.
Millsaps will next face Trinity in their second conference game of the weekend on Sun. Feb. 12.
