Junior from Roanoke, Va., competes strong in first year |
November 13, 2006
ATLANTA, Ga. -- Last
weekend at the 2006 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Cross Country
Championships at Emory University, junior Sam Gay finished
in 42nd place with a time of 27:37.8 in the men’s 8K run.
Gay, who is in his first year of competition at the collegiate level, placed
ahead of several athletes who beat him earlier in the season in conference competition,
including placing in the top 28 percent out of 152 runners.
“Sam will be the man to beat next year,” head coach David Rop said. “Not
only at the regional level, but also at the national level. His hard work really
paid off this year.”
