SUWANEE, Ga. - Millsaps College junior running back Tyson
Roy was named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive
Player of the Week by the league office in Suwanee, Ga., on Monday
afternoon.
Roy, a transfer from the United States Military Academy, rushed
for 117 yards and three TDs and caught eight passes for 147 yards
in a heartbreaking 35-34 loss to the Huntingdon Hawks over the
weekend.
“It’s a big honor,” Roy said. “However, it’s
kind of overlapped by the loss. I’ve got to give some credit
to the offensive line and the receivers as well, they did a nice
job blocking down the field for me. The coaches put me in the position
to make plays and I try and do my best. I’m also proud of
the way Burt (Pereira) played, he did a great job for us.”
This is the first SCAC weekly award received by Millsaps this season,
with Chris Jackson and Hayley Barber (women’s soccer) landing
on the d3football.com and d3kicks.com Teams of the Week for Sept.
2-9.
For the season, the Baton Rouge, La., native is averaging 73.5
rushing yards and 93.5 receiving yards per game. Despite missing
a game, his 187 yards receiving is the second highest total in
the league.
The Majors have an off week Sept. 23 before hosting Lincoln University
(Mo.) Sept. 30 at Harper Davis Field. Game time is slated for a
1 p.m. start.
