SUWANEE, Ga. - Juan Joseph of Millsaps College, a
6-2, 178-pound sophomore quarterback from Edgard, La., has been selected
the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday,
September 30.
Joseph passed for a
school-record tying five touchdown passes as the Majors posted
a 52-10 victory over Lincoln University (Mo.)
in front of a hungry Millsaps crowd on "Purple Pride Day" Saturday
at Harper Davis Field.
Joseph, who completed 18 of 35 passes for 275 yards, is the first
Millsaps quarterback to throw for five TDs in a single game since
Beau Pollard led the Majors to a 52-16 win over Greenville (Ill.)
College in 1997.
He is also the first SCAC quarterback to toss five TD passes in
a game since Daniel Swanstrom of Rhodes accomplished the feat at
Rose-Hulman on Oct. 9, 2004, and it is just the ninth time this
decade a SCAC quarterback has pulled off the feat.
For the season, Joseph has completed 50 of 91 passes for league-leading
totals of 756 yards and nine touchdowns. He also leads the league
in total offense at 256.0 yards per game and is third in passing
efficiency with a rating of 142.0.
Millsaps
will play its fifth home game in six weeks, when they host Centre
College in its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener at
Harper Davis Field on Saturday, Oct. 7. Game time is slated
for a 1 p.m. start.
