STERLING, Va. - For the fourth time in six weeks, a Millsaps student-athlete has landed on the d3football.com Division III National Team of the Week for games played Oct. 7.
Casey Younger follows up Shawn Gillenwater’s selection last week, with his first defensive accolade of the season.
“It’s an honor to receive this award,” Younger said. “It makes me feel proud to know that all the running and hard work during practice is paying off. It also shows that our defense has made a lot of progress in the last couple of weeks and how good of a coach Mike DuBose is.”
Younger tallied nine tackles (six solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a blocked PAT en route to a 38-12 victory over Centre College on Saturday afternoon at Harper Davis Field.
After five consecutive home games, the Majors will finally get a chance to test themselves on the road, traveling to Sherman, Texas, this weekend to face off with SCAC newcomer Austin College at 1 p.m.
“It’s going to be a challenge,” Younger said. “We have a totally different team from last year and we expect a lot. We’ll be ready mentally and physically for our first road test.”
Millsaps will then return home the following week to host DePauw University at 1:30 p.m.
