STERLING,
Va. -- After an idle weekend of competition and
a trio of losses by No. 13 St. Olaf, No. 15 Montclair State
and No. 23 Whitworth, Millsaps earns its first
D3football.com ranking of the season and the first since
the poll's inception in
2003, entering this week's poll at
No. 24.
Joining
the Majors (6-1, 5-0 SCAC) in this week's poll are No. 23 Bethel
who knocked off St. Olaf 35-13 last weekend and
No. 25 Cortland State who defeated Montclair State 43-13 last
weekend.
Winners of six-straight games in consecutive seasons for the
first time in school history, Millsaps holds a two-game lead
in the SCAC standings in front of No. 19 Trinity
(3-1 SCAC) and Rhodes (3-1 SCAC) entering the final
three weeks of league competition.
On the heels of Liberty
Mutual Coach of the Year nominee Mike
DuBose, the Majors have produced some of the top statistical
numbers in Division III this season, currently ranking fourth
in the country in passing offense (333.9), sixth in pass
efficiency defense (78.0), seventh in total defense (215.7),
ninth in scoring defense (11.1), 14th in fumbles recovered (10)
and 16th in turnovers gained (21).
The 24th-ranked Majors will host No. 19 Trinity this weekend
at Harper Davis Field on Homecoming weekend. Kickoff is slated
for 1 p.m. with festivities scheduled before and during the game.
