Majors Sweep Player of the Week Honors
Joseph earns third SCAC honor of the year, Harris earns first

October 23, 2006

SUWANEE, Ga. --
Millsaps College swept this week's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week honors for games played Oct. 21.

Sophomore defensive back Marcus Harris earns his first Defensive Player of the Week accolade, while fellow sophomore Juan Joseph earns his third Offensive Player of the Week honor in four weeks.

Joseph connected with eight different receivers and completed 28 of 43 passes for 234 yards as the Majors won their fourth straight with a 31-7 victory over DePauw. He also had eight carries for 15 yards and a score.

Several weeks after tying a school record with five touchdown passes in a single game, Joseph once again finds his name in the Millsaps record books. He passed Rickie Haygood for the most pass completions in a single game with 28. Haygood set the original record in 1976 when he completed 27 passes in a 35-28 win at McMurry.

For the season, Joseph leads the SCAC in passing yards (1,576), passing yards per game (262.7), touchdown passes (15), total offense (1,614) and total offense yards per game (269.0) and is second in passing efficiency (138.0 rating).

Harris came up huge for the Majors on defense, recording two key interceptions to go along with his seven tackles (five solo).

Harris' first pick came inside the red zone - keeping DePauw from potentially taking a 14-7 lead in the second quarter. His second was even more game-changing as the sophomore scampered 49 yards with his pick to give the Majors a 21-7 lead late in the third quarter.

Harris also had 0.5 tackles-for-loss and a pass break-up to help snap an eight-game losing streak to DePauw that dated back to 1998.

For the season, Harris has 36 tackles (tied for 30th in the SCAC) and leads the league in passes defended with nine (seven break-ups and two interceptions).

Millsaps looks to extend its four-game winning streak this weekend, traveling to Sewanee, Tenn., to face off with the Sewanee Tigers (2-5, 0-3 SCAC).  Game time is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start.
