No Doubt About It, Majors Sweep POW Honors
Chris Jackson, Ronnie Wheat garner SCAC weekly accolade

November 14, 2006

SUWANEE, Ga. --
After a 34-12 thumping of No. 14 Trinity University for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship, a pair of Millsaps Majors earn this week’s SCAC Player of the Week honors.

Chris Jackson, a 6-2, 205-pound senior receiver/kick returner from Phenix City, Ala., has been selected the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week, while fellow teammate Ronnie Wheat, a 6-0, 210-pound junior linebacker from Vancleave, Miss., has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, Nov. 11.

Jackson put on a show on Saturday afternoon, racking up 225 yards of total offense, including two punt returns for a touchdown (51 and 67 yards), one kick return for 49 yards and five catches for 26 yards and a touchdown.

Jackson set a new school-record for punt return yards (150) and punt returns for a TD (two) in a single-game and also picked up two special teams tackles, delivering two big hits on the Tigers’ Ted Barnhart.

The win for Millsaps ends Trinity’s streak of 13-straight conference championships and sends the Majors to the playoffs for the first time since 1975.

For the season, Jackson leads the SCAC in receptions (59), receiving yards (661), receiving touchdowns (9) all-purpose yards (156.4 per game) and kick returns (22.7 yards per return).

Wheat had seven tackles (four solo) and a half a tackle-for-loss, and also returned his second interception for a touchdown in as many weeks, picking off Trinity’s Jacob Cannon and scampering 73 yards untouched for the score as the Majors earned their first SCAC title since 1996.

Wheat is the fifth Millsaps player to return an interception for a touchdown this season and adds to the Majors season total of 18 picks.

For the season, Wheat has 35 tackles in seven games, including 6.5 tackles for loss and three interceptions that he returned for a league-best 92 yards.

Millsaps will play its first playoff game since 1975 on Saturday, Nov. 18, traveling to Pittsburgh, Pa., to face off with the No. 24 Carnegie Mellon University Tartans (10-0) in Round 1 of the Division III playoffs. Game time is slated for a 12 p.m. ET kickoff.
