Three Majors Land on D3football.com All-South Region Team
Younger earns first team honors followed by Kline and Shivers, respectively

December 11, 2007

STERLING, Va. – As chosen by the sports information directors and D3football.com staff, a total of 75 players were selected to this year's All-South Region Team. Senior defensive tackle Casey Younger landed on the First Team defense, followed by fellow Vicksburg native and senior safety Ray Kline on the Second Team and sophomore offensive guard John Shivers on the Third Team, respectively.

For the second consecutive year, the Majors did not have a selection to the All-South Region preseason squad, but landed several on the postseason team. Millsaps had five selections in 2006, highlighted by senior kick returner Chris Jackson on the First Team, and backed that up with three this year.

Younger, a 6-foot-1, 260-pound senior from Vicksburg is the first repeat performer on the All-South Region squad for Millsaps, earning Third Team honors a year ago. With Football Gazette honors still in the future, the Vicksburg senior continues to add to his postseason accolades that include SCAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, All-SCAC First Team and Jackson Touchdown Club Most Valuable Senior.

Notes on Younger: SCAC Defensive Player of the Week (Week 4) ... ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI First Team ... 2007 First Team All-SCAC & Co-Defensive Player of the Year ... 2006 First Team All-SCAC and D3Football.com Third Team All-South Region selection ... 3rd in the SCAC in sacks and 4th in tackles-for-loss ... had a career-high 4.0 TFL and 3.0 sacks in a shutout win over Rhodes ... ranks amongst the Top 15 all-time in Millsaps history with 180 career tackles (29.0 tackles-for-loss), 12.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Kline, a 5-foot-9, 186-pound senior safety from Vicksburg becomes the first Second Team selection in the All-Region Team's third year of existence, ending 2007 with 38 tackles, four INTs (2 TDs), 11 pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a QB hurry.

Notes on Kline: SCAC Defensive Player of the Week and Football Gazette Team of the Week selection in Week 10 ... started all 10 games at strong safety, recording at least one tackle in every game ... 2nd in the SCAC in passes defended and 4th in INTs ... returned a pair of INTs 56-yards and 48-yards for a score ... had a season-high nine tackles against TU ... 2004 & 2005 All-SCAC Second Team selection ... 2007 First Team All-SCAC ... 186 career tackles.

Just a sophomore and standing in at 6-foot-1, 278-pounds from Summerville, Ala., Shivers becomes the youngest Millsaps selection and the first to receive recognition on the offensive line, with QB Juan Joseph and Jackson the other two on offense.

Notes on Shivers: Graded out in the high 80s all season ... developed into a dominant pass blocker with great hands and great upper body strength ... only given up one sack in two seasons, none this year ... started in all 21 games through his first two seasons ... plays with great toughness and effort ... 2007 First Team All-SCAC.

Those selected to the All-South Region Team are automatically thrown back into the pot to receive All-America honors, which will be released at the conclusion of the NCAA Division III football season.
