Millsaps College running back
Tyson Roy ran for 254 yards on 37 carries in last week's 28-19 win over
rival Rhodes College in Memphis, but when he found out he was named to
SCAC Player of the Week, for the first time this season, and the Jackson
Clarion-Ledger's Small College Offensive Player of the Week(2nd week in
a row), he quickly gave all the credit to the offensive line who paved
the way for the 5-9 185 ball carrier.
The biggest o-line inthe conference, comprised of Jay Buck, Charles Gordon,
Conell Phillips, Brian Catchings, and Matt McCollough, and fullback Neil
Woodall repeatedly blew the Rhodes defenders off the ball. Head Coach
David Saunders was so confident in his running game last week that on
fourth and one on his own 27-yard line with 2:20 remaining in the game,
Saunders didn't hesitate in his decision to go for it.
Offensive Coordinator Jack Peavey called for an inside running play,
but Roy had to bounce it outside and scampered nearly untouched for the
73-yard touchdown.
