Majors trail big at halftime, lose to Hawks 49-27

MONTGOMERY, Ala -- Freshman quarterback Billy Bob Orsagh threw for 210 yards and ran for a touchdown and freshman running back Anthony Parker ran for two scores, but it was not enough for the Millsaps Majors (1-2, 0-0) to overcome the Huntingdon Hawks (4-0) and their 35-7 halftime lead.

The Hawks put 14 points on the board in the first quarter beginning with an eight-play, 75-yard touchdown scoring drive and followed it with a seven-play, 98-yard touchdown drive. The Hawks would score two more times in the second quarter before Parker capped an 11-play drive for the Majors with a 1-yard TD run with 1:39 seconds left before haltime. The Hawks would add another score with nine seconds remaining in the half.

Orsagh led the Majors on a touchdown march on their first possesion of the second half scoring on a three-yard run. Orsagh finished with 39 yards rushing on 13 attempts. Majors running back Eryc Lorino was held to 42 yards on seven carries despite breaking loose for a 31-yard gain in the second quarter.

Overall the Majors passing game clicked with eight different receivers hauling in passes from Majors freshmen QB's Juan Joseph, Burt Pereira, and Orsagh. Pereira threw a touchdown pass to freshman wideout Rashad Brown late in the fourth quarter.

Freshmen Matt Foisy, Kennedy Griffin, and sophomore Louis Conley each had four catches in the loss. Todd Rhoden remains the SCAC's top punter increasing his average to 41.6 yards per kick.

Defensively, freshman defensive tackle Pete Ridley had a season best seven tackles including one for loss. Middle linebacker Ronnie Wheat had a game-high 11 tackles replacing injured starter Emmitt Johnson. Canaan Farris had a season-high seven tackles and Ray Kline and Bryan Villa each had five tackles. Kline added a sack of Hawks QB Zach Golson.

The Majors have a clean slate heading into conference play this weekend to face the Centre College Colonels (4-1) in Danville, KY. The winner of the conference crown receives an automatic bid to the the NCAA playoffs.
