The Millsaps Majors (1-4,
0-1) offense had a season best 340 yards gained in the first half,
but Rose-Hulman (5-2, 2-1) made adjustments in the second half and
came away with a 35-21 win Saturday on Harper Davis Field.
The Majors out
gained the Engineers in total offense, but three turnovers and five
costly second half penalties led to just 61 yards of offense in
the second half for the Majors. The Engineers scored three unanswered
touchdowns to open the second half, the third on Charlie Key's SCAC
leading 15th touchdown of the season.
Quarterback
Billy Bob Orsagh had a season-high 298 yards through the air for
the Majors connecting on a 26-yard touchdown pass to tight end Nick
Madison and a 30-yarder to Eric McCarty. Orsagh also had 34 yards
rushing.
Engineers quarterback
Cameron Hummel completed 50 percent of his passes for 262 yards
and four touchdowns through the air. Hummel also had 64 yards rushing.
Key finished with 67 yards on the ground and one score to go with
32 yards receiving and one touchdown.
Freshman wideout
Matt Foisy had the most receiving yards, 138 on three catches, of
his young career, but Foisy was stripped of the ball on the one-yard
line by the Engineers Preseason All-American cornerback Brett Bueltel,
who recovered the fumble, negating what would have been a 98-yard
touchdown in the first quarter.
McCarty finished
with 67 yards receiving for the Majors including an outstanding,
full extension grab that kept a key Majors drive going. The Engineers
kept the Majors ground game in check allowing 84 yards total to
Tyson Roy and Eryc Lorino.
David Cutter
kept the pressure on Hummel collecting two sacks, one of which was
a bone-jarring hit that forced a fumble that would be recovered
by the Majors. End Cedric Lawrence sacked Hummel once and Marcus
Harris picked off a pass in the first quarter. Ross Rutledge had
nine tackles and two for loss. Team leading tackler Ray Kline had
ten tackles bringing his season total to 40.
