PEARL - The Millsaps men’s golf team placed third in its first fall event of the 2006 campaign, firing a team score of 306 at the Mississippi College Fall Classic at Patrick Farms Golf Course in Pearl.
Millsaps finished eight strokes off the lead, with neighbor Belhaven College taking the tournament crown after shooting a combined score of 298 and tournament host Mississippi College finishing second with a team score of 300.
Junior Michael Ameen was the tournament medalist, earning an all-tournament team selection after carding a 2-under par 70.
Chad Tobler, the senior from Hammond, La., was the next top scorer for the Majors, posting a round of 75, good enough for an eighth place tie.
Other Major notables were Drew McDowell (78), Jack Rader (82) and Daniel Rice who fired an 83.
The men will take a week off before hitting the links in back-to-back weekend tournaments, with the Rhodes College Invitational, Sept. 18-19, at Tunica National Golf Course and the Louisiana College Invitational at Oak Wing Golf Course in Alexandria, La., Sept. 25-26.
