PEARL -- In
the Majors' opening event of the fall at Patrick Farms Golf Club,
senior Michael Ameen entered the clubhouse carding a 75 to finish
t-third individually and help Millsaps place fourth in a field
of six teams on Tuesday.
With first tournament freshman jitters
and a cold bug affecting a pair of players, the Majors showed
a lot of potential, proving that shooting
under 300 is definitely within their
grasp
this
year.
Ameen continues his strong play on the golf course, making the
turn at 1-over par before finishing the back nine with a
38 to
shoot a solid 3-over 75. He recorded four birdies on the day
and seven pars against six bogeys.
Fellow senior Drew McDowell shot a 39 on the front nine after
a double bogey on No. 5 and followed the back nine with a 41
to finish with an 80 -- good enough for a Top 15 finish.
Other Major notables were sophomore Madison Field (82) and frosh
Jerry Johnston (85).
Mississippi College won the overall event with a total score
of 310, led by Jonathan Winstead (75), Ben Mobley (77) and Danny
Briseno (78) who all shot under 80.
The low man on the afternoon was Louisiana College's John Willie
who shot a 1-over 73. Willie birdied two of the first four holes
to make the turn at 1-over and finished the back nine even par.
Millsaps will play its next event of the fall season at Tunica
National in Tunica, Miss., next weekend. The Majors will enter
the two-day, Rhodes Fall Classic on Saturday, Sept. 22.
