TUNICA - After
battling through 40 mph winds on Day 1 and rain on Day 2, the
Millsaps men's golf team shot a two-day team score of 654, good
enough
for a
seventh
place
finish
at
the Rhodes
College
Classic Fall Preview in Tunica this past weekend.
The Majors
were led by senior Chad Tobler, who fired rounds of 80 and 77 to
finish in a tie for 14th place overall,
11 behind the leader. Tobler
also led the entire field with eight birdies in two days, two better
than the second place finisher Taylor Urbanski of Oglethorpe who
finished with six.
As a team, the
Majors were third in the field with 19 birdies overall - five behind
tournament leader Oglethorpe who drained 24 - and fifth in the
field on Par 5 scoring at 12-over par.
"Our scores haven't reflected the hard work and mandatory workouts
and practices our team has gone through," second year head coach
Scott Essex said. "Hopefully we'll pull everything together
this weekend."
Other Millsaps notables were Michael Ameen (24th), Drew McDowell
(42nd), Jack Rader (43rd) and Freddie Bracken (59th).
The Majors will compete in their third tournament in as many weeks
this weekend, traveling to Alexandria, La., to play in the Louisiana
College Invitational on Sept. 25-26 at Oak Wing Golf Course.
