ALEXANDRIA,
La. - This
past weekend at the Louisiana College Invitational in Alexandria,
La., the Millsaps men’s golf team shot a two-day team
score of 620, good enough for a ninth place finish.
Junior Michael Ameen skillfully led the Major’s,
as he placed eighth overall in the tournament field with rounds
of 74 and 73.
Sophomore Jack Rader of Seely Lake, Mont., was the next highest
finisher for Millsaps, as he followed with scores of 76 and 75
for a 24th place finish.
The team improved on their first day score by a combined eight
shots, while placing eighth in the field with 18 birdies overall
and fourth in the field on Par 4 scoring at 17-over par.
“The effects of the mandatory workouts and nutrition policies
are surfacing as they show enhancement in the team’s results,” head
coach Scott Essex said. “The team showed great enthusiasm
and sportsmanship in an event that was dominated by much larger
schools and we are looking forward to doing it again.”
Other Major notables were Drew McDowell (39th), Madison Field (55th)
and Daniel Rice who finished 59th overall.
The Majors will next hit the links Oct. 6-7 when they head to
Cleveland to compete in the Derral Foreman Intercollegiate hosted
by Delta State at Cleveland Golf Course.
