A native of Jackson, Scott Essex took over the men's golf program at Millsaps College in 2005, hoping to translate his talents as a player and club pro over to the young Majors.

Essex brings 40 years of playing experience and 18 as a golf professional, although he had never held a collegiate coaching position until Millsaps. Essex's knowledge of the game and eagerness to learn the in's and out's of Division III golf has made him a valuable asset to the program.

Having been a member of the Cadillac Classic Senior Tour in 2003 and a club professional at Rocky Bayou Country Club in Niceville, Fla., and Shoal River Country Club in Crestview, Fla., coach Essex brings a host of tournament experience, practice methods and the needed mental toughness necessary to bring a first-rate competitive team to the course.

Essex will be graduating three seniors this year and has already picked up two freshmen this past fall and will be increasing the size of the team to 10 for this upcoming season. Plans are also in the works to host a major regional event in the Jackson area in the spring of 2009.

During the summers, Essex is honing his game for another shot at the PGA's Champions Tour but right now he is dedicated to placing the names of the Millsaps Majors golf team members permanently at the top of the leader boards.
