Millsaps Inducts
Five New Members into Sports Hall of Fame

JACKSON – Prior to the highly anticipated
gridiron matchup between Millsaps College and Trinity University
on
Saturday, October
27, another exciting moment was taking place in the Leggett
Center on the Millsaps campus, with five new members being
inducted
into the Sports Hall of Fame by their peers.
After an invocation given by 2001 inductee Dr. T.W. Lewis and a short
welcome by director of athletics Tim Wise, five former student-athletes
and one Millsaps supporter were recognized with a short introduction
and presented with a plaque to show their appreciation.
In addition to this year's inductees into the Hall of Fame,
two supporters were recognized with the Sam Knox Distinguished
Service Award which is given annually to the person(s)
who give their time and efforts to enhance Millsaps athletics.
The 2007 recipients were Hall of Fame inductee Bruce Bartling
and his wife, Ann.
Hall of Fame inductees and a short biography of their accomplishments
are listed below:
Pete Austin, Class of 1997
• Four-time All-SCAC selection as an outfielder, led the league in stolen
bases
in 1995
• First student-athlete in Millsaps and SCAC history to be drafted by a
pro team
in an amateur draft
• Carried a .349 career batting average with 177 hits, 131 runs scored
and 106
RBIs
• GTE Academic All-American in 1997
• Competed on two NCAA Regional Teams
Erin Clark Mason, Class of 1990
• First four-year starter on four teams with a winning record from 1986-90
• First all-time in career points scored with 1,395
• First in career scoring average with 15.6 points-per-game
• Second all-time in career rebounds with 656
• Led team in scoring in both her junior and senior seasons
Johnny Brunini, Class of 1996
• Top 10 in Millsaps history with 1,213 career points scored
• Fifth all-time with 600 career rebounds
• Three-time All-SCAC selection from 1994-96
• Won two SCAC Championships and appeared in two NCAA Tournaments
• Member of the 1995 team that advanced to the Sweet 16
(furthest Millsaps has ever advanced in tournament)
Buddy Bartling, Class of 1971
• Played tailback, place kicker and kick returner in 1967
• Kicked eight PATs and two field goals vs. Southwestern at Memphis in
a 68-8 win
in 1968
• Scored 32 points as a kicker with 20 PATs and four field goals (1969)
• Tallied 95 career total points
• Competed as a two-sport letterman in baseball as well as football
Buddy Bass, Class of 1991
• 1991 SCAC rushing leader with 1,206 yards
• 1991 season placed him seventh all-time in SCAC history for yards in
a single-season
• Currently ranks second all-time in SCAC for career rushing average with
110 yards-per-game
• Career rushing totals of 2,461 yards and 27 TDs
• Team captain his senior year
