MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In
the final day of the Rhodes College Soccer Classic in Memphis,
Augustana's Dan Hogan fired the game-winner past Millsaps' Domenick
DiPaolo in the 82nd minute to break a 1-1 tie and send
the Vikings to their first
win
of
the
season, 2-1.
In a physical
contest that saw each school whistled for 14 fouls apiece, including
yellow cards on each side, the second half provided a solid showing
of offense with all three goals coming in the final 43 minutes
of regulation.
Matt Meyer
opened a scoreless match with his first goal of the season just
3:38 into the second half before Millsaps found the equalizer
from junior Drew Dews (2) in the 69th minute off senior Anthony
Amaya's first assist of the year.
After 12 minutes
of good soccer and mass subs from both sides, AC capitalized
off an 11 minute rest for Hogan at the 81:38 mark when he struck
the winning goal in the net.
Mike Dolan
(1-1) earned his and AC's first win of the season between
the posts with a pair of saves, while DiPaolo (1-1) picked up
a season-high five saves in a losing effort.
The Majors
will return to Harper Davis Field on Friday night at 5 p.m. for
their home-opener. |
