JACKSON – Millsaps
sophomore Phil Guillot missed a hat-trick wide right,
but netted his first two goals of the season nevertheless, as
the
host Majors picked up a 6-0 shutout win over Louisiana
College in the first live internet streamed game at the College.
In a game that
started 45 minutes late due to travel issues for the visitors,
Millsaps made the Wildcats pay just 1:50 into the game when freshman
Drew Moroux headed in a save off Drew Dews' shot past the keeper
Jayson Stewart for a 1-0 lead.
Freshman Conley
Pomerenke followed 10 minutes later with his first collegiate
goal to give the host Majors a 2-0 lead, using a perfectly played
direct kick from senior Anthony Amaya just outside the 'Cats
box. Amaya would add his first goal of the season in the 29th
minute to cap the scoring in the first half and gave Millsaps
a
3-0
lead into
intermission.
Guillot's goal
in the 58th minute off a free kick put the game well out of
reach, as his shot past a wall of Wildcats snuck right under
the hands of a diving Stewart to make it 4-0.
Corey Beaumont
added a goal in the 72nd minute off a Colin Thompson assist – 1
of 2 on the night – and
Guillot delivered the final blow in the 77th minute as Millsaps
polished off its first home win of the year 6-0.
Senior keeper
Domenick DiPaolo saw just four shots-on-goal, saving them all,
as he recorded his second shutout win of the year and improved
to 2-1 overall.
Millsaps will
continue a 4-game homestand on Sunday, welcoming archrival Mississippi
College to Harper Davis Field for a 4 p.m. showdown. The game
will be available on the internet via live video at atwsportscast.com. |
