Wildcats Hold Off Late Majors Push, 4-3
Millsaps drops to 0-3 on the year in non-conference action

September 7, 2007

PINEVILLE, La. --
Freshman Oscar Girou scored four goals over a 26 minute span in the first half and sophomore forward Felipe Escobedo assisted on three of them as Louisiana College held off three second half goals from Millsaps in a 4-3 win at Wildcat Field.

Despite outshooting the 'Cats 24-17 on net and earning three more corner kicks (8-5), Millsaps couldn't overcome an early four-goal deficit as they dropped their second in a row to Louisiana College by a one goal margin.

The Majors lost 1-0 in overtime last season at home off a penalty kick in the 97th minute.

Girou's first two goals of the game came at the 11:25 and 12:37 marks, taking advantage of a pair of balls from Escobedo and beating Majors' goalkeeper Jake Milner for a 2-0 lead.

With a 4-0 halftime deficit staring them in the face, Millsaps lit up the scoreboard just over three minutes into the second half, using an Anthony Amaya penalty kick to cut the gap.

A pair of goals in the 72nd and 77th minute from Heath Smith and Drew Dews Jr. narrowed the margin to 4-3, but that's as close as the Majors would get as the final buzzer sounded.

In a fast, physical game with 21 combined fouls, Millsaps received three yellow cards as Andres Colocho, Brandon Mong and Dews were all booked by head referee Tim Chiasson.

Ray Savoie (2-1) picked up eight saves and surrendered three goals in net for LC to pick up his second win of the season while Milner (0-3) surrendered four goals and recorded five saves in the loss.

With tomorrow's game cancelled with Rust College at home in Jackson, the Majors will continue a stretch of five-straight road games to open the season. Millsaps will face Huntingdon College at 4 p.m. on Sept. 14 in Montgomery, Ala., before a Sept. 16 matchup with LaGrange College at 2 p.m.
