Amaya Earns National Team of the Week Accolades
D3kicks.com recognizes junior for three point night against Wildcats

September 11, 2007

CHICAGO, Ill. -- A week after Millsaps women's soccer forward Erin Sanford earned national recognition from D3kicks.com, junior midfielder Anthony Amaya put together a three point performance against Louisiana College on Friday to put his name in the books for Team of the Week in Week 2.

A Third Team All-SCAC selection in 2006, Amaya sparked a Millsaps run just three minutes into the second half, connecting on his first goal of the season off a penalty kick in the 49th minute before an assist to teammate Heath Smith in the 72nd minute.

Despite outshooting the 'Cats 24-17 on net and earning three more corner kicks (8-5), Millsaps couldn't overcome an early four-goal deficit as they dropped their second in a row to Louisiana College by a one goal margin.

The Majors will continue a stretch of five-straight road games to open the season, facing off with Huntingdon College at 4 p.m. on Sept. 14 in Montgomery, Ala., before a Sept. 16 matchup with LaGrange College at 2 p.m.
