Blazers Turn Back Majors, 5-1
Belhaven’s speed proves to be difference maker

September 14, 2006

JACKSON - The visiting Belhaven Blazers used a five-point performance from senior Dantala Wright to snap a three-game losing skid and defeat the Millsaps Majors, 5-1 at Harper Davis Field on Wednesday evening.

Belhaven (2-3), whose roster is internationally-filled with talent, used the best of its scoring opportunities en route to a five-goal night and a Blazer win.

Millsaps (0-5) played tough the entire match and even out shot the Blazers 18-10. Belhaven however made its shots count, jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead midway through the first half.

The Majors did finally get on the scoreboard in the 86th minute, after a successful penalty kick by Anthony Amaya ended Millsaps’ frustration of a four-game scoreless streak.

The difference maker in Wednesday’s game was that the Majors couldn’t capitalize on their attempts and the speed and quickness of the Blazers proved to be too much.

Millsaps will take a week off before heading to Texas for a two-game road swing, taking on conference opponents Southwestern and Trinity on Sept. 22 and Sept. 24.

The Majors will then return home Sept. 29 to host the DePauw Tigers at 6 p.m.
