Top-Ranked Tigers No Match for Majors in 10-0 Victory
Gomez records hat-trick, No. 1 Trinity rolls in SCAC-opener

September 21, 2007

JACKSON -- Senior Robert C'deBaca's goal in the 13th minute gave No. 1 Trinity University an early lead and junior German Gomez's goal in the 76th minute completed his hat-trick, as the nation's top-ranked team rolled to a 10-0 win in their conference-opener over Millsaps at Harper Davis Field on Friday night.

Six different Tigers found the back of the net in the win and six different assisted in the effort as Trinity improved to 7-0 (1-0 SCAC) on the year and 17-0 all-time against Millsaps.

Trinity controlled the game from the opening kickoff and applied continued pressure, forcing Majors goalkeeper Jake Milner to stay on his toes the entire evening between the posts.

A 17-2 shot differential in the first half set the tone for the night, with the Tigers earning 31 total shots in the contest, including 20 on goal. The Majors lone shots came from senior Heath Smith and sophomore Aaron Hyatt in the first half.

Patrick Floeck pushed the Tigers lead to 2-0 in the 25th minute before Gomez's back-to-back goals in a 4-minute span gave the visitors a 4-0 halftime edge.

Just as he did to start the game, C'deBaca jumpstarted the attack in the second half, scoring three minutes in off an assist from senior Ben Stewart. The lead grew to 6-0 just 27 seconds later on Noe Casanova's fourth goal of the season.

The Tigers would go on to add four more goals over a 22 minute span to make the final lopsided margin, using a pair of goals from sophomore Ben Grossman off deflected saves from Milner, a goal from Stewart and Gomez's third of the game in the 76th minute.

Things got physical late in the second half after Trinity's continued pressure caused frustration for the Millsaps players. A pair of yellow cards were given out in the period as well as a red card on a dangerous tackle by a Majors defender.

Millsaps will try and regroup on Sunday, playing host to SCAC foe Southwestern University at noon on Harper Davis Field.
