Spencer, Lozano Pace Pirates in Shutout Win
Majors continue four-game homestand Friday against Colo. College

September 23, 2007

JACKSON -- Josh Spencer netted two first half goals and teammate David "Sonic" Lozano tacked on two late second half goals as the visiting Southwestern University Pirates won their conference-opener Sunday afternoon 4-0 over Millsaps at Harper Davis Field.

Despite a season-high 12 saves from Majors goalkeeper Jake Milner, Southwestern's offense dominated from the get-go and waisted little time getting on the scoreboard, taking advantage of a Spencer goal in the 12th minute for the early 1-0 lead.

Spencer's second goal of the match in the 27th minute gave the Pirates a 2-0 halftime margin, using a nice ball from senior Kyle Strine to beat Milner.

Southwestern (5-4-1, 1-0 SCAC) out shot Millsaps 13-2 in the first period, including nine shots-on-goal, while earning four more corner kicks.

Lozano provided the final two goals for the Pirates in the 72nd and 81st minute, scoring unassisted off a breakaway and using a well crossed ball from senior Scott Smith.

The final scoresheet favored Southwestern with the Pirates out shooting the Majors 22-4 (16-3 shots-on-goal) in the contest, led by Spencer and Smith who both fired four shots.

Milner was hit with the loss for Millsaps to fall to 2-5 while Ryan Tasin picked up three saves and a shutout to improve to 5-2 between the posts for visiting Southwestern.

The Majors will try and get back in the win column on Friday as they continue a four-game homestand, playing host to SCAC foe Colorado College at 3 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. Sunday matchup with Austin College.
