JACKSON - On an extremely hot and humid Sunday afternoon at Harper Davis Field, Centre College used an early first half goal coupled with a Nick Judah hat trick to get past Millsaps 5-0 and send the Majors to their fourth consecutive conference loss.
Chris Baumann found the back of the net first for Centre, using a David Horne assist to beat Majors goalkeeper Jake Milner at the 17:30 mark in the first half.
Millsaps (0-8, 0-4 SCAC) played a tough remainder of the half, only allowing the Colonels to take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
Centre (7-1, 2-0 SCAC) would open the second half with a crushing blow to the Majors hopes, when Richard Hinton blasted a shot from point blank range past Milner to give the Colonels a 2-0 lead just 1:40 into the second half of play.
That’s all the Colonels would need, as Judah added three insurance goals in the final seven minutes to give the Louisville, Ky., junior a hat trick and Centre its second conference win of the season.
The Majors fired 11 shots (three shots-on-goal), while the Colonels made good on their attempts by finding the back of the net five times on eight shots-on-goal.
Millsaps will step out of conference play for its next two matches, traveling to Colorado Springs, Colo., to take on Colorado College and St. John’s University Oct. 7-8.
The Majors will then return home for a pair of matches on Oct. 11 and Oct. 14, playing host to Huntingdon College and LeTourneau University.
