JACKSON - The
Millsaps men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2006
campaign, using a Lance Allen hat-trick to down the visitors
from Huntingdon College 6-2 at Harper Davis Field on Wednesday
evening.
Millsaps (1-11,
0-4 SCAC) who has only managed three goals on the season, broke
through offensively against the Hawks, as they tallied six goals,
seven assists and nine shots-on-goal.
Allen broke
a scoreless first half at the 29:40 mark, using an Aaron Hyatt
assist to beat Hawks goalkeeper Jarryd Keene for a brief 1-0
lead.
The Majors
lead increased to 2-0 right before the half, as Todd Schneck
picked up his first goal of the season on a double-assisted
effort from Allen and Drew Wooton.
The second
half featured a mass array of goal scoring, as the two teams
combined for six goals - four of them coming from Millsaps.
Huntingdon
(4-10-1) delivered a quick scare to Millsaps to open the second
half, as the Hawks Bradleigh Lane beat Majors goalkeeper Jake
Milner only 1:57 into the period to cut the lead to 2-1.
Less than 10
minutes later, it was deja vu all over again as Lane beat Milner
on a rifle shot from about 20-yards out to knot the game at 2-2.
Just when it
looked as if the Hawks were about to overpower the Majors, Anthony
Amaya delivered his second goal of the season to give the Majors
the lead for good.
Millsaps would
tack on three more insurance goals in the final 25 minutes of
play, as Schneck picked up his second goal of the game and Allen
added two more for the hat-trick.
The win for
Millsaps snaps a 14-game losing streak and is its first since
a 1-0 double-overtime thriller at Southwestern on Oct. 23, 2005.
The Majors
continue a stretch of five-straight non-conference games this
weekend, playing host to LeTourneau University at 7 p.m. on Saturday
and traveling to Delta State on Sunday for a 4 p.m. game time.
