Majors fall to Oglethorpe, complete season

The Millsaps Majors took the field for the final time on Sunday afternoon, facing the Oglethorpe University Stormy Petrels. The Petrels brought to Jackson a record of 10-6-1 and a conference standing which saw them tied for second place with DePauw and Centre. The team was determined to not let the Majors keep them from finishing their season on top.

Oglethorpe served Millsaps with an onslaught of stifling defense and high productivity offense. In the first half of the game the Majors only got off one shot attempt while the Petrels pounded Millsaps goalkeeper Matt Mutchler with 11. The Majors made four saves in the first half. The Petrels scored twice – at the 29:54 mark and again at the 13:01 point.

In the second half, the Majors got off three shot attempts against the Petrels and made one save. However, the Petrels had seven shot attempts, scoring three times, giving the game a final score of 5-0. Oglethorpe made one save in the contest.

For the day, Millsaps was faced with 13 fouls while the Petrels were faced with 11. The Majors were also issued one yellow card in the first half.

The loss brings the season record for Millsaps to 6-11-1 and 1-8 in the conference. The team will graduate five seniors in the 2006 class.
