PINEVILLE, La. --
In her first collegiate start returning to her home state of
Louisiana, freshman midfielder Hayley Nemeth netted two goals
in a rainy first half to give Millsaps its seventh-straight
win over the homestanding Louisiana College Lady Wildcats, 2-0.
Goalkeeper
Elizabeth Sooby posted her sixth career clean slate and second
in three games between the posts for the Majors in a full 90
minutes, stuffing a team-high three shots-on-goal from Lady Wildcat
forward Marionne Caronel.
Nemeth's first career goal came in the 20th minute off an unassisted
effort, beating Wildcat keeper Carla Lambert to give the Majors
an early 1-0 lead.
Just over seven minutes later, junior Erin Sanford picked up
her third point overall and first assist of the season,
playing a nice ball back to Nemeth who beat Lambert once again.
Millsaps drilled LC on the stat sheet, earning 13 more shots
(24-11), six more shots-on-goal (13-7) and six more corners (8-2)
en route to its best start since 1994 when they started the year
at 2-1 and finished at 9-4 under head coach David Forsythe.
The Majors will try and keep up the pace next Friday, Sept. 14
at 6 p.m. against neighbor Belhaven College, hosting the Blazers
in their home-opener at Harper Davis Field.
Millsaps will try and avenge a 2-1 loss at home last year on
a late goal and look to knock off the Blazers for the first
time in four tries dating back to their first meeting in 1997.
