JACKSON - The Millsaps women's soccer team picked
up its first win of the 2006 campaign on Saturday, using a Hayley
Barber goal in the opening minutes to tame the Louisiana College
Wildcats, 1-0.
Millsaps (1-3) came through and delivered a big victory, with Barber's
lone goal off a Bobbi Jones assist being the difference in the
2nd minute.
A good, solid defense put down the hopes of a Wildcat win through
the entire 90 minutes.
The Majors, who took 15 shots (six shots-on-goal) and 19 corner
kicks, only allowed Louisiana College one shot the entire match.
Jones tallied four of the Majors shots, with Megan Sullivan contributing
three shots (all shots-on-goal) and Amanda Paschall attempting
two.
Beth Piraino, Callie Roth and Kristen Massey all chipped in with
a shot apiece.
This season's squad appears to be brimming with talent and undoubtedly
will have many exciting victories in the future.
The Majors next home match will be on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 5
p.m. at Harper Davis Field when they play host to Belhaven College.
