Second Half Surge Earns 24th-Ranked Trinity 3-0 Win
Tigers improve to 3-3 (1-0 SCAC), Majors fall to 3-3 (0-1 SCAC)

September 21, 2007

JACKSON -- Senior Jennifer Wray's goal in the 64th minute broke open a scoreless game and junior Robyn Brooks netted a pair of late second half goals to break the margin wide open as 24th-ranked Trinity University earned a 3-0 win at Harper Davis Field Friday evening in the SCAC opener for both teams.

Millsaps keeper Elizabeth Sooby and Tigers keeper Jennifer Fifield drew a scoreless bout in the first half, picking up timely saves to keep the match all-square through the first 45 minutes, before a halftime substitution saw sophomore Alexandra Blake between the posts the remainder of the contest for Trinity.

In an even match that weighed different in the final stats, the Majors gave the Tigers all they could handle on both sides of the ball, hustling to loose balls and using their physical play to keep the game scoreless midway through the second half.

Wray took advantage of a ball played in from freshman Jordan Azar in the 64th minute, beating Sooby to the bottom left corner of the net for the eventual game-winning goal.

Goals from Brooks in the 71st and 85th minute made the final margin a little larger than the game played out to be, with the junior scoring off a direct kick just outside the Millsaps box for her first goal of the year before a 40-yard attempt sailed over Sooby's head in the net.

Trinity's continuous attack earned them eight more shots (13-5) and six more corners (6-0), with Grace Rizza and Brooks causing most of the pressure at the net.

Robichaux launched two of the Major's five shots on the evening while Sullivan, Hayley Barber and Jessie Otis each fired a shot.

Millsaps will continue a six-game homestand on Sunday, playing host to conference foe Southwestern University at 10 a.m. at Harper Davis Field.
