Majors Battle 'Roos to Sunday Scoreless Draw
Millsaps picks up first point in SCAC standings, improves to 3-4-1

September 30, 2007

JACKSON -- Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Sooby picked up 10 saves to earn her third shutout of the year and Austin College keepers Allison Wurmbrand and Kaitlyn Elledge combined to shutout Millsaps as the two teams earned a point apiece in the SCAC standings with a 0-0 scoreless tie at Harper Davis Field on Sunday afternoon.

Sooby picked up several key saves in the first half to keep the game deadlocked at halftime, stuffing LeAnne Nguyen and Faren Frazier on a pair of rocket shots at the net in the 13th and the 24th minutes.

Austin 4-2-3 (0-0-1 SCAC) out shot Millsaps 3-4-1 (0-2-1 SCAC) by an 8-1 margin in the first period alone en route to a 17-5 advantage for the match, led by Nguyen who fired a game-high four shots along with three on goal.

The second half proved more of the same for both teams with several scoring chances falling just short, including Leslie Robichaux's attempt that deflected off the cross bar in the 83rd minute for the Majors.

Two scoreless, 10-minute sudden death overtime periods ended the match in a draw due to regular season rules. In the playoffs, the teams would have battled it out with five penalty kicks apiece to determine the winner.

Millsaps will wrap up a six-game homestand on Tuesday at Harper Davis Field, facing cross-town rival Mississippi College in a 7:30 p.m., non-conference match.
