Majors Tie School Record, Top Hawks 9-1
Millsaps fires a combined 32 shots, 17 shots-on-goal

October 12, 2006

JACKSON - The Millsaps women’s soccer team used a school-record tying nine goals from seven different players to cruise past Huntingdon College 9-1 at Harper Davis Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The win for Millsaps is the largest since a 9-0 inaugural season win over Hendrix College in 1991.

The Majors earn their second consecutive win over a non-conference opponent, as they improve to 3-9 overall and 3-1 at home in non-conference matches.

Amanda Paschall put the Majors on the scoreboard first, picking up one of her two goals on the day just six minutes into the first half, when she beat Hawks goalkeeper Bethany Bush.

The game remained scoreless for the next 24 minutes until Huntingdon’s Hanna Katie picked up a loose ball in front of the Majors net and tied the game at 1-1.

Millsaps would respond right back, netting two goals in two minutes, as Megan Sullivan and Liz Donovan picked up their first goals of the season to put the Majors on top 3-1 heading into the half.

The second half was all Millsaps, as they tacked on six more goals to blow the game wide open.

Paschall once again got the scoring going, using a Bobbi Jones assist to increase the lead to 4-1 just three minutes into the half.

Sullivan, Hayley Barber, Hollie Penuel, Jessie Otis and Kristen Massey each picked up a goal in the final 30 minutes to give the Majors their third win of the 2006 campaign.

Mary Raines and Elizabeth Sooby split time at goalkeeper, as Raines allowed the lone goal in the first half to improve her season record to 1-1.

Millsaps will try and make it three straight on Saturday, as they play host to LeTourneau University at 5 p.m.  They will then hit the road to face Delta State on Sunday for their final non-conference match of the season.

Saturday’s match versus LeTourneau is slated for “Purple Pride Day.”
