JACKSON - After a school-record tying nine goals in a 9-1 victory over Huntingdon College on Wednesday, Millsaps played LeTourneau to a 1-1 tie in double overtime on Saturday before falling to Delta State 2-0 on Sunday.
The game against LeTourneau on Saturday was “Purple Pride Day” and the Millsaps fans were treated to a true soccer outing that went into double overtime.
The scoring came early in the game, with Callie Roth finding the back of the net for her second goal of the season at the 15.20 mark before Erica Sudeck tied the game at 1-1 less than eight minutes later for the Lady Jackets.
That’s all the scoring the game would see, when after 67 minutes of scoreless soccer in regulation and two scoreless overtime periods, the game ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
For the game, Millsaps out shot the Lady Jackets 14-11 and earned three more shots-on-goal to move to 2-0-1 in its last three matches.
In the weekend finale at Delta State, the Majors got a season-high 13 saves from goalkeeper Elizabeth Sooby but it wasn’t enough as they fell to the Lady Statesmen, 2-0.
The Delta State offense was firing on all cylinders, as they out shot Millsaps 24-11 and earned twice as many shots-on-goal. Because of their potent offense, they also earned 12 corner kicks to the Majors two.
Catherine Sanford got Delta State on the scoreboard in the 21st minute, when she used a nice through ball from Angie Libby.
The Lady Statesmen added another goal midway through the second half, when Allie
Libby beat Sooby on a penalty kick.
The loss ended the Majors three-game unbeaten streak and gave Delta State its fifth win of the season.
Millsaps will play its final two home matches of the season this weekend, as they play host to Austin College on Friday and Hendrix on Sunday. Friday’s match is slated for 6 p.m., while Sunday’s match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
