Seniors Treated to Final Home Win, Top Hendrix 1-0
Roth leads Majors to victory off direct kick in overtime

October 23, 2006

JACKSON -- After nearly 98 minutes of scoreless soccer at Harper Davis Field on Sunday afternoon, Callie Roth found the back of the net off a direct kick from 20-yards out in overtime to treat graduating seniors Mary Raines, Amanda Paschall and Emily Ainsworth to the final home win of their careers.

Millsaps (4-11-1, 1-5 SCAC) also picked up its first conference win of the season with the win over Hendrix.

The first half provided little offensive production, as both teams combined for more fouls than they did total shots, corners and offside penalties.

The second half was a different story and totally dominated by the Majors, including the overtime period.

Millsaps picked up 11 shots (five shots-on-goal) from seven different players and earned five corner kicks to the Lady Warriors two shots and one corner.

The continued pressure finally paid off, as the Majors earned a direct kick just outside the box with 2:13 left in the first sudden death overtime period.

Roth capitalized on the opportunity, scoring her team-high fourth goal of the season, by beating goalkeeper Devin Smith for the thrilling overtime win.

The win earned the Majors a little bit of revenge, as they fell to Austin College 3-2 on Friday evening with 0:45 seconds left in double overtime.  The Kangaroos made good on a questionable penalty kick that was awarded when an attacker was fouled inside the box but nowhere near the net.

Millsaps will play its final three conference matches on the road, as they travel to Rhodes, Oglethorpe and Sewanee to close out the 2006 season.
