SUWANEE, Ga. – After
posting a pair of shutouts in a 1-0-1 weekend for Millsaps at
home and extending her scoreless streak between the posts to
304 minutes, junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Sooby has been named
the SCAC Defensive Player of the
Week – the
first weekly award of her career in a Majors uniform.
Sooby with two regular season games remaining, set a new single-season school
record with her fifth and sixth shutouts of the year, picking up eight total
saves over 200 minutes of scoreless soccer between the posts as the Majors tied
Rhodes in double-overtime and defeated Hendrix 5-0 on Sunday.
With a 5-8-2 overall mark, Sooby has helped lead Millsaps to its
best record since 2000.
Sooby currently
ranks second in the league in shutouts (six) and is fourth in
total saves (79) and saves-per-game (5.27).
She is the first Major to receive a conference award this season
and the first to gain recognition since Callie Roth was named
the Co-Offensive Player of the Week in 2005 (Week 10).
