Majors Earn SCAC Road Split, Post Best Record Since 1994
Sooby posts seventh shutout, Robichaux and Jones net a pair of goals

November 5, 2007

ATLANTA, Ga. – Millsaps closed out the regular season with a split in conference play on the road, falling to Sewanee 3-2 on Friday night off an Allison Davis goal in the 59th minute minute before a bounce back 3-0 win over Oglethorpe off another Elizabeth Sooby shutout.

With the win on Sunday, the Majors posted their best finish since the 1994 season when they finished at 9-4 overall and also won two SCAC games for the first time since 1996.

Sooby picked up 14 saves on the weekend, including four against OU, to add to her single-season school record of seven shutouts while sophomore Leslie Robichaux and junior Bobbi Jones each netted a pair of goals.

Against Sewanee on Friday, senior Callie Roth netted the final goal of her Millsaps career in the 13th minute to give the Majors an early 1-0 lead before back-to-back goals from the Tigers in the 25th and 35th minute gave the home team a 2-1 advantage.

Millsaps knotted the game at 2-2 just before the halftime buzzer, using Robichaux's team-leading seventh goal of the season of an unassisted effort to beat Liz Spragans in the net.

Sewanee, however, delivered the final blow in the 59th minute, taking advantage of a Maggie Adams corner kick to find a streaking Davis in the box for the score and the 3-2 win.

The Majors managed just 10 shots for the match against 22 for the Tigers, as Adams led the way with a game-high six shots while Roth and Robichaux each fired four apiece.

In a shutout win over Oglethorpe on Sunday, the Majors' fourth league shutout of the year, Robichaux netted the game-winner in the opening minutes of the second half followed by a pair of goals by Jones over the next eight minutes to cruise to the 3-0 victory.

In a very physical contest that produced 34 combined fouls, including three yellow cards, Millsaps made the best of its seven shots-on-net by placing three past Stormy Petrels goalkeeper Sarah Nania.

The Majors emptied the bench in their final game of the year, allowing all 21 players to step on the field, including graduating seniors Julia Fell, Kaycee Wright, Sarah Kocher and Roth. Lauren Rochelle did not play Sunday due to an injury sustained Friday.

Millsaps finishes the season with a 6-9-2 overall mark and a 2-5-2 mark in SCAC play.
