Majors End Season with 4-2 Loss at Sewanee
Millsaps falls to 4-14-1, 1-8 in SCAC play

November 7, 2006

SEWANEE, Tenn. -- After a 4-2 loss at Oglethorpe on Friday, Millsaps ended a two-day road swing with an identical loss on Sunday to Sewanee that concluded the 2006 women’s soccer season.

Despite a pair of goals from Megan Sullivan, the Majors couldn’t overcome three second half goals from Ryanne Arola, Bonnie Morscheiser and Carly Hallman of Oglethorpe.

Sullivan’s goal at the 22:23 mark gave the Majors an early 1-0 lead before Jamie Dillon tied the game at 1-1 on an Akele Jeffers assist minutes before halftime.

That’s as close as Millsaps would get as the Petrels jumped out to a 3-1 lead midway through the second half to secure their seventh win of the year and their first win in SCAC play.

Oglethorpe out shot the Majors 19-7 (11-4 shots-on-goal) and also earned nine corner kicks to Millsaps’ three.

Ashley Money picked up the win for the Petrels, while Elizabeth Sooby was hit with the loss despite seven saves.

In Sunday’s season finale at Sewanee, Evey Gannaway’s goal at the 2:56 mark was one of four-straight goals that gave the Tigers a comfortable 4-0 lead ten minutes into the second half.

The Sewanee offense was clicking on all cylinders, as they out shot the Majors 24-4 (14-2 shots-on-goal) and also earned eight corner kicks to Millsaps’ one.

Amanda Paschall used the best of her last collegiate game, finding the back of the net twice in a four minute span late in the game to put the Majors on the scoreboard.

Bobbi Jones picked up the lone assist for Millsaps, playing a ball over the top of the defense on Paschall’s second goal.  The assist for Jones was her team-leading seventh of the season.

Despite double-digit saves for the second time of the season (10), Mary Raines picked up the loss to fall to 2-3.  The senior recorded 44 saves on the season, including a season-high 13 saves in a 2-0 loss at Delta State.

Millsaps ends the season with a 4-14-1 overall mark and a 1-8 conference mark.
