The Millsaps Women's Soccer Team opened their 2005 SCAC campaign
in the rain and cold of Kentucky Friday night. For the Majors the
game turned out as poor as the weather as they dropped a 3-0 decision
to the Centre College.
The Majors fell behind 1-0 in the 11th minute on a cross that glanced
off the back of a Millsaps defender and slipped in the net just
past goalie Elizabeth Sooby who had already recorded several outstanding
saves.
SCAC leading scorer Erin Menard got her second of the game with
five minutes left in the half to put the Colonels up by two. The
Majors came out in the second half and created a few chances but
were unable to find the net. Centre put the game away scoring their
third goal of the game making the final score 3-0.
Goalie Elizabeth Sooby recorded 12 saves and was named Defensive
Player of the Match by her teammates. Erin Sanford was tabbed as
the Offensive Player of the Match for Millsaps College.
The Majors next travel to the University of the South at Sewanee
to take on the regionally ranked Tigers who have not given up a
goal in their last five games.
