Majors pitch shutout of Wildcats 6-0

The Millsaps Majors scored early and often in their contest at Louisiana College to record their first victory of the 2005 season.

First year forward Erin Sanford opened the scoring just 2 minutes and 25 seconds into the game on a fine assist from midfielder Hayley Barber. Barber would add a goal of her own at the 13:37 mark but not before sophomore midfielder Callie Roth tallied at 6:42 for a 2-0 lead.

The first half scoring was rounded out by forward Bobbi Jones, who took her feed from sophomore forward Sarah Kocher and placed it in the top corner to make it 4-0 at the break.

The beginning of the second half was a replay of the first with Sanford scoring in just over 2 minutes for her second of the game. Not to be outdone, Jones recorded her second of the game after taking a pass from defender Beth Piraino to complete the scoring at six.

On the defensive side of the ball, three Millsaps Keepers were part of the shutout. First year Elizabeth Sooby went most of the first half while making 2 saves before being relieved by Junior Mary Raines. Raines opened the second half recording 5 saves before giving way to first year Laura Rodriguez. Rodriguez completed the last 18 minutes to secure the shutout victory.

With the 6-0 victory the Majors evened their record at 1-1 for the season.
