Millsaps Women's Soccer

Millsaps ends Spring season with 7-aside play

Millsaps Women’s Soccer hosted 7 v 7 friendlies on the turf at Harper Davis Field for the second straight year. Once again four of the Jackson area schools, Millsaps College, Mississippi College, Belhaven College and Hinds CC participated. The positive results for the Majors were an excellent way to wrap up the Spring season.

“This has been the most productive spring since I’ve been here”, Coach Paul Van Hooydonk stated. “The young ladies worked extremely hard and we made some great strides. Our focus was increasing our speed of play through high defensive pressure. You could really see the results of this work when we stepped out against the other schools.”

Junior Co-Captain Emily Ainsworth agreed, “Through our dedication and teamwork we have made a vast improvement over the past season. The improvement could be seen in our hard work and winning ways on Saturday.”

With the strong finish from the fall (a tie and a win in their last two conference games) and the positive spring, the Majors are primed for great improvement in the 2006 season. Coach Van on the past and future, “We were really young last fall with 4 juniors, 5 sophomores and 10 freshmen. Couple that with losing a week and a half due to Hurricane Katrina and some injuries, we took awhile to come together and find ourselves as a team. Next fall we will return 19 players and expect to hit the ground running. I’m excited to see how much more competitive we can become.” Though the Majors will face a tough 2006 schedule the future looks very bright for the Millsaps Women’s Soccer Program.
