Millsaps Women's Soccer

Majors select team honors

At the team banquet in December Millsaps Women’s Soccer handed out their individual awards for the 2005 season.

First year goalkeeper Elizabeth Sooby was voted Rookie of the Year. Sooby started 12 of 14 games while recording 121 saves for the year. In her finest effort of the season, Sooby had 18 saves in a 2-2 tie with 23rd ranked Rhodes. She also recorded a season high 22 saves in a 2-0 loss to SCAC champion DePauw.

First year players Ann Blumer and Beth Piraino shared the Most Improved Player honor. Blumer, a defender from Spartanburg, South Carolina, started the last 5 games of the season for the Majors. In all Blumer appeared in 13 of the 14 contests. Piraino, a midfielder from Memphis, TN, also appeared in 13 of 14 games starting 9 of them.

Sophomore Julia Felll earned Most Valuable Defensive Player. Fell, a defender from Shreveport, Louisiana, began the season as a marking back before moving to sweeper for the last part of the year. She started 13 of 14 contests for the Majors.

Sophomore Forward Megan Storm received the team’s Most Valuable Offensive Player Award. Storm scored 4 goals including the game winner in Millsaps' conference win over Oglethorpe to end the season. Storm started all 11 games in which she appeared.

Sophomore Callie Roth was selected as the Team’s 2005 Most Valuable Player. Roth a midfielder from Louisville, Kentucky had 3 goals and 3 assists for a total of 9 points in her 14 starts. She was also an All-SCAC third team selection.

Junior co-captain Emily Ainsworth received the Coach’s Award for her leadership and commitment to the team. Ainsworth, a defender from New Orleans, Louisiana, started all 14 games for the Majors this season.

With all eighteen letter winners returning including each team award winner, the future looks very bright for Millsaps College Women's Soccer.
