LaGRANGE, Ga. – Amanda Daniel pitched two complete games as LaGrange College opened the 2008 season with a sweep of Millsaps College at the LaGrange College Softball Complex on Sunday. The Panthers (2-0) won the first game 4-3 in eight innings and took the second 4-2.

Daniel (2-0) allowed only two earned runs in 15 innings of work. She scattered 13 hits, while striking out 12 and walking only two. Daniel moved into fourth place on the Panthers' all-time wins list with 31.

Millsaps jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning of the first game. Tiffany Ladnier led off the game with a triple to center field. Ladnier scored as Morgan Ladner reached on an error by third baseman Kristi Underwood.

LaGrange tied the game in the bottom of the first. Katie Hein led by reaching on an error as first baseman Amanda Stevens dropped the throw from third baseman Jennifer McKinley. Hein moved up to second on Leah Flowers' bunt single. Underwood walked to load the bases. Hein scored the tying run on a wild pitch from Millsaps' starter Brittney McAllister.

The Lady Majors took advantage of another error by the Panthers to score twice in the fifth inning to go up 3-1. Shortstop Jennifer Knight's errant throw allowed Sam Hill to go to third on a force play at second. Hill later scored on a wild pitch and Ladner added an RBI-single down the left field line for the second run of the inning.

The Panthers once again came back to tie the game. Holly Hazelwood led off the inning with a bunt single. Hein moved Hazelwood up with a sacrifice bunt. Leah Flowers singled through the left side with Hazelwood stopping at third. Hazelwood scored and Flowers moved over to third on a wild pitch. Flowers scored to tie the game when McKinley booted Underwood's grounder to third.

The Panthers pushed across the winning run in the eighth inning. Knight opened the inning with a single through the left side. Haleigh Kellar moved Knight up with a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Erica Robinson kept the inning going with an infield single as Emily Foster, running for Knight, stopped at third. Allison Gordon hit McAllister's first pitch into center field to drive in Foster with the winning run.

The second game started like the first. Millsaps took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Ladnier beat out an infield single to lead off the game. She came all the around to score on Sam Hill's double to left field.

The Panthers took the lead back in the third inning. Kayla Yeargin singled to right to lead off the inning. Underwood drew a two-out walk to keep the inning going. Knight followed with a double to left to score Yeargin. Underwood later scored on a fielder's choice to put the Panthers up 2-1.

The Lady Majors tied the game in the fifth inning. Katherine Nicholas singled with one out. Pinch-hitter Jessica Crowe tripled to right field to drive in Nicholas.

The Panthers went ahead to stay in the bottom of the sixth inning. Flowers reached on one-out single and Kristen Woodard reached on an error by McAllister playing first base. Erica Robinson grounded out to third as both runners moved up. Yeargin followed with a single up the middle as Flowers scored the go-ahead run. Yeargin drew a throw to second allowing Woodard to score from third on the play for a 4-2 lead.

Daniel quickly got the first two outs of the seventh inning. Nicholas and Ladnier followed with back-to-back singles to keep the inning going. A wild pitch put runners at second and third. Daniel ended the game by striking out Nicholas.

Millsaps will open a four-game road swing on March 8 in Memphis, Tenn., with the Rhodes College Classic, taking on Williams Baptist College, Robert Morris University and Rhodes.
