JACKSON --
Austin College freshman Brooke Delozier went 3-for-3 with five RBIs
and a pair of 2-run homers to lift the Kangaroos to a 7-6 come-from-behind
win in Game 1 of a Saturday afternoon twinbill, before Millsaps rallied
around freshman pitcher Brittney McAllister's two-hit shutout in Game
2 for an 8-0, 6-inning win.
Saturday's twinbill marked the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference (SCAC) opener for both softball teams and only
the fourth 'home' game for Millsaps this season.
In an exciting, error-filled Game 1 that produced a combined 13 runs
and 19 hits, the two teams exchanged runs throughout the contest before
the 'Roos plated a pair of runs in the sixth frame on a throwing error
and an RBI-single from Delozier for the 7-6 victory.
Amanda Stretcher relieved starter Aubrey Larmour for Austin College
in the fourth inning of a 5-5 ballgame, tossing the final four innings
while
scattering
four hits an one unearned run for the win.
Seven different Majors recorded a hit in the contest, including freshman
Kasey Thibodeaux who went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and
one run scored.
McAllister's two-hitter and 13 Millsaps hits proved to be
the difference in Game 2, run-ruling the 'Roos 8-0 with a five-run
sixth inning, capped off by freshman Sam Hill's double to left centerfield
to score senior Josie Manley from second after Manley reached on a
2-RBI double off the right centerfield wall.
After dropping her first two contests as a Major to fall to 0-2 with
a 10.79 ERA, McAllister (pictured) has been nothing but solid
in the circle for Millsaps, tossing six innings of scoreless ball for
her
fifth-consecutive
win to improve to 5-2 with a 3.83 ERA.
Hill led the way offensively for Millsaps, going 3-for-3 with three
RBIs and one run scored while freshman Jennifer McKinley (1-for-4,
three runs, two RBIs) and seniors Renee Hebert (3-for-4) and Manley
(2-for-4, two RBIs) eached contributed at the plate.
Millsaps (6-16, 1-1 SCAC) and Austin College
(8-14, 1-1 SCAC) will
conclude their 4-game series with an afternoon doubleheader on Sunday.
First pitch is slated for noon.
