School record seven Majors named All-SCAC

Trinity earns a sweep of top honors but seven Millsaps Majors named to All-SCAC lists.

SUWANEE, Ga. - In exclusive all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) voting by the league's head coaches, Trinity University's Stephanie Priester and Erin Mulvey were selected the conference's Offensive Player and Pitcher-of-the-Year respectively after the duo led the Tigers to the 2005 conference title - the program's fifth softball crown in the seven-year history of the sport. In that same balloting, Trinity head coach Roland Rodriguez and Centre College coach Wendie Austin-Robinson shared SCAC Coach-of-the-Year honors.

Priester, a sophomore first baseman from Lake Jackson, Texas, is the third, second-year player to win Offensive Player-of-the-Year honors, but first since 2000 when DePauw's Keri Shake was Co-Player-of-the-Year. Priester hit .381 (second in the SCAC) this season and also finished in the top 10 in the league in on-base percentage (.422 - fifth), hits (40 - ninth) and runs batted in (28 - third). She was the league's Offensive Player-of-the-Week in Week 6 and also made the all-tournament team in leading the Tigers to the 2005 SCAC title.

Mulvey, a sophomore right-hander from Round Rock, Texas, turned in one of the more dominating single-season pitching performances in league history in garnering Pitcher-of-the-Year honors. She led the league in earned run average (0.99) - just the second pitcher in league history to post a sub-1.00 ERA for a complete season. She also posted league-high totals for wins (15) and opposing batting average (.192 - a new single-season conference low), and her 148 strikeouts are a single-season school record. Three weekends ago, Mulvey pitched Trinity to its first conference championship in three years, going 3-0 without allowing a single run in 26.0 innings of work. She struck out a tournament-record 32 batters and walked just one to earn all-tournament honors. Mulvey was the league's Pitcher-of-the-Week three times during the 2005 season.

Centre head coach Wendie Austin-Robinson, in her fifth season in charge of the Colonels', led her squad to the SCAC tournament championship game - the program's first appearance in the finals since the sport was adopted by the league in 1999. Centre went 19-14 in 2005, the program's first-ever winning season, and the 19 victories also set a new high-water mark for single-season wins. After taking over a program that had gone 10-45 (.181) in the two previous seasons, Austin-Robinson has compiled a 67-100 (.401) record in her five years as head coach at Centre.

Trinity skipper Roland Rodriguez, who has been named SCAC Coach-of-the-Year a record three times, led the Tigers' to their fifth title in seven years and third since he took over the reigns in 2001. Rodriguez sports a 125-81 overall mark (.607) in his five years as the head man in San Antonio and has more wins than any other active coach in SCAC softball history. Trinity made its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance last weekend and picked up victories over Linfield (Ore.) and the host school Redlands before being eliminated at the Seed 3 Region in Redlands, Calif.
